Perusahaan tersebut mengatakan bahwa beberapa saat yang lalu membeli dari Anwell Technologies sebuah system replika Blu-Ray Disc (BD) atau disebut “Smart BD”. InfoSmart dan Anwell juga setuju untuk membagi hasil dari proses manufaktur.

“Kemenangan Blu-Ray dalam industri telah diantisipasi oleh InfoSmart. Meskipun kita sendiri masih ditengah-tengah dari kedua platform, kita akan berusaha berkonsentrasi untuk menemukan jalan untuk Blu-Ray sebelum keputusan ini dibuat oleh konsumen”, kata Parker Seto, InfoSmart CEO. “Produksi Blu-Ray akan membantu strategi perusahaan kami untuk memperluas dibidang optical disc dengan isi dan memposisikan perusahaan kami sebagai pemimpin di Hong Kong dan China,” lanjutnya.

Sistem pabrikan, Anwell Technologies, Ltd., adalah perusahaan berbasis di Singapore yang menspesialisasikan di replikasi optical disc dan peralatannya. Sistem Anwell “Smart BD” dibeli oleh InfoSmart mampu memproduksi 500,000 unit per bulan setelah 100% beroperasi. InfoSmart mengantisipasi tanggal berjalannya seluruh manufaktur pada akhir Juni 2008. Perusahaan tersebut telah menyelesaikan pembayaran untuk unit sistem tersebut sebesar US$1.4 juta (sekitar 13 Milyar Rupiah)

Taiyo Yuden’s first BD-R LTH media will be available in Japan next week, and will support recording at 1~2x.

Mitsubishi Kagaku Media will also release its first LTH BD-Rs at the same time frame, while Hitachi Maxell, Ltd. will start offering its LTH products in the beginning of March. Prices in Japan are expected to range from 4,000 ~ 4,800 Yen ($37 ~ $44), in packages that include 5 discs.

The LTH write-once BD-R media feature an organic dye recording layer, making them different that the currently available BD-R discs that use inorganic materials. The “Low to High” technology (LTH, in groove recording) was included in the “Blu-ray Disc Recordable Format Ver.1.2″ specifications.

Current Blu-Ray drives and recorders cannot read the LTH BD-R discs. That because the reproduced signal while reading the discs has a LTH (Low to High) polarity. However, new hardware as well as firmware upgrades to existing players/recorders could add support for LTH recording. Panasonic has already released such a firmware update last November for its for its DMR-BW200, DMR-BR100 and the MR-BW900/BW800/BW700 models. Pioneer is also expected to ship the first LTH BD drives in Spring of 2008.

The advantages of the LTH manufacturing technology is that it can be applied without requiring large-scale manufacturing plant investments, allowing for using modified CD-R and DVD-R manufacturing equipment.

Pioneer and Mitsubishi Chemical Media fist announced the development of the first LTH discs last September. Fuji Photo Film is also expected to release LTH BD-R discs this year.

Pendukung HD DVD yang lain, seperti Paramount Pictures dan DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc , juga akan mengumumkan rencana mereka untuk menggunakan Blu dalam hari-hari berikutnya, meskipun tidak ada komentar yang diberikan.

Toshiba akhirnya menyatakan “menyerah” pada hari Selasa setelah kehilangan dukungan dari studio besar dan para retil dengan teknologi Blu-ray yang didukung oleh Sony.

Plextor mengumumkan PX-B920SA 4x Blu-ray DVD ReWriter drive juga combo DVD-Rewriter yang dapat menjalankan Blu-ray dan HD-DVD disk – Plextor PX-B300SA.

Plextor PX-B300SA & B920SA internal dvd drive untuk PC dan menggunakan koneksi SATA. Dengan harga kompetitif, optik drive ini mengkombinasikan playback high definition dengan support untuk semua standard DVD. Sebagai tambahan, Plextor juga mengikutkan teknologi LightScribe untuk membuat tulisan dan desain yang dapat di tulis/burn di disk.

Plextor PX-B300SA dapat menjalankan Blu-ray (6x) dan HD-DVD (3x), selagi drive dual-layer DVD, mengkombinasikan multi format – DVD R/RW dan RAM – menjadi satu. Kecepatan tulis: 16x DVD+R/-R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 4x DVD+/-R DL, 5x DVD-RAM, 40x CD-R dan 24x CD-RW. Sedangkan PX-B920SA mempunyai seluruh kemampuan PX-B300SA ditambah 4x BD-R, 2xBD-RE untuk blu-ray disk tetapi tidak ada rewriter untuk HD-DVD. Paket lengkap termasuk Intervideo WinDVD8, Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5.5, Ulead Burn.Now 4.5.

Drive ini tersedia pada akhir bulan Februari 2008. Update: Harga pasaran di Amrik $599.

Tokyo, January 10, 2008 – Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today announced that it would discontinue shipment of both 20GB HDD and 60GB HDD configurations of PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3®) originally launched on November 11th 2006, in the Japanese market after the completion of the final shipment scheduled in January 2008. Upon termination of the shipment, the sales of both models will be limited to stock in the market.

Along with both the increased efforts to improve software development environment and the availability of a more extensive line-up of software titles for PS3, SCEI will vigorously promote the expansion of the PS3 platform by further concentrating on the 40GB HDD (CECHH00 Series) model introduced in November 2007, equipped with the core technology components that make PS3 the most advanced high-definition entertainment system while realizing lower power consumption.

Following the ever greater line-up of the PS3 software during this holiday season, more and more software titles are scheduled to be released beyond January from third party game developers and publishers such as “Devil May Cry® 4” (CAPCOM CO.,LTD./ Expected Release Date: January 31st in BD format), “METAL GEAR SOLID 4 GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS” (Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd./ Expected Release Date: second quarter of calendar year 2008 in BD format) and “Ryu ga Gotoku KENZAN!” (SEGA CORPORATION/ Expected Release Date: March 6th in BD format) as well as SCE Worldwide Studios, Japan Studio titles including “echochrome” (Expected Release Date: Spring 2008 as PLAYSTATION®Network download content).

Hasil dari menunggu telah tiba, Sony baru saja mengumumkan BDU-X10S (pembaca saja) untuk PC dan laptop dengan harga berkisar $200. Harga yang cukup baik mengingat beberapa tahun yang lalu masih $600, software dari Sony juga termasuk CyberLink PowerDVD BD Edition. Drive ini menggunakan SATA interface, dimana cukup masuk akal semenjak interface ini menjadi pilihan dari tiap PC baru dan mempunyai cukup kekuatan untuk mengalirkan data HD (High Definition).
