We’ll just come out and say it: this is so awesome. In fact, if you want to just take our word for it, skip the copy and head straight to the video after the break — you really only need to watch the first four or so minutes… Still here? Alright then. The shiny cube comes straight from Espoo and houses a N900, but the only way to get into the box is to plug it into a computer, establish a link, and then type in the right terminal command to unlock the lid (spoiler: it’s company motto “connecting people” — how clever) in addition to — poof — smoke! (Our favorite part.) Given the technical prerequisites, our guess is this has something to do with Nokia’s the hack-centric “Push” program, but really that’s just a guess. Like we said, video after the break, and if you opt to watch past the first couple minutes, you’ll get to see a plastic fox. Trust us.

iPhone 3G, harga $199 ….. tunggu dulu

Pertama kali lihat berita tentang iPhone 3G, akhirnya diluncurkan juga oleh Apple. Setelah Steve Jobs mengumumkan di WWDC 2008 (meeting tahunan yang diadakan oleh Apple), banyak antusias dari para pengunjung. Dari WWDC diumumkannya versi iPhone 3G ini terdapat fitur-fitur baru seperti Maps on GPS, geotagging (foto akan terdapat data lokasi GPS), dll.

Jika dilihat pada website resmi, harga iPhone 3G 8GB tak lebih dari $199, tapi setelah diselidiki ternyata ada persyaratan lainnya. Harus mendaftar kontrak selama 2 tahun, itupun harus mendaftar di operator GSM yang ditunjuk oleh Apple di negara yang akan diluncurkan iPhone tersebut.

Trus bagaimana dengan Indonesia ? Sayangnya tidak termasuk dalam daftar yang ada dalam peluncuran iPhone. Negara terdekat Indonesia yang akan menerima adalah Singapore, Malaysia dan Filipina. Kemudian bagaimana dengan harga yang tanpa subsidi. Terakhir berita di Eropa, Vodafone Italy telah mengeluarkan versi tanpa kontrak untuk iPhone 3G pada harga €499/€569 ($773/$881) untuk model 8GB/16GB. Meski cukup tinggi, harga tersebut masih termasuk wajar untuk ukuran smartphone di Itali (dan sekitar Eropa) dimana HTC Touch Cruise dengan fitur WiFi, tri-band HSDPA data, GPS, dan touchscreen dijual dengan harga €549.

Judulnya memang cukup menarik perhatian, tapi apa benaran nih. Fring memberikan layanan telepon gratis melalui internet dengan fasilitas skype tentunya. Untuk “gratis” di luar negeri sih mudah, tapi di Indonesia mungkin agak susah mencari hotspot yang gratis kecuali di kafe-kafe. Fasilitas lainnya juga dapat komunikasi dengan program instant message populer yang lain.
