Nvidia mengklaim bahwa arsitektur dari GPU terbaru ini menawarkan dua kali lipat kekuatan dari GeForce 8800 GTX, meningkatkan efisiensi listrik dan performa CUDA yang telah diperbaiki. Dengan teknologi CUDA dan software CUDA untuk Windows Vista, para programmer dapat meringankan pekerjaan pemrosesan terberat dari CPU ke Nvidia GPU, dimana tenaga inti 240 multi-threaded prosesor bekerja, perlu diingat bahwa prosesor CPU sekarang ini “hanya” 4 core multi-threaded.

Nvidia juga membicarakan mengenai perhitungan komputasi teraflops dari GTX 200, kekuatan grafis terbaru PhysX dan suppport untuk 3-way SLI.

GTX 280 dibangun di 65nm process dan mempunyai 1.4 Triliun transistor. Kartu grafis ini mempunyai kecepatan native 602MHz, kecepatan prosesor 1,296 MHz, dan kecepatan memory 2,214 MHz. GTX 280 menggunakan 1GB of GDDR3 dan 240 inti processing dan 32 ROP.

GTX 260 juga dibangun di 65 nm process dan mempunyai 1.4 Triliun transistor. Kecepatan nativenya adalah 576 MHz, kecepatan prosesor 1,242 MHz, dan kecepatan memory 1,998 MHz. Memory interface di GTX 260 adalah 448-bit dan mempunyai 896MB dari memory GDDR3. GTX 260 mempunyai 192 processing core dan 28 ROP. Kebutuhan listrik maksimal dari kartu grafis ini adalah 182W.

Kartu grafis GeForce GTX 280 GPU akan tersedia mulai hari ini dari pabrik kartu grafis di seluruh dunia. Kartu grafis berfitur GeForce GTX 260 GPUs akan tersedia pada tanggal 26 Juni 2008. Harga retil yang disarankan untuk GeForce GTX 280 dan GeForce GTX 260 GPU adalah $649 dan $399.

AGEIA’s PhysX software is widely adopted with more than 140 PhysX-based games shipping or in development on Sony Playstation3, Microsoft XBOX 360, Nintendo Wii and Gaming PCs.

Like graphics, physics processing is made up of millions of parallel computations. The Nvidia GeForce 8800GT GPU, with its 112 processors, can process parallel applications up to two orders of magnitude faster than a dual or quad-core CPU.

“The computer industry is moving towards a heterogeneous computing model, combining a flexible CPU and a massively parallel processor like the GPU to perform computationally intensive applications like real-time computer graphics,” continued Mr. Huang. “Nvidia’s CUDA technology broadens the parallel processing world to hundreds of applications desperate for a giant step in computational performance. Applications such as physics, computer vision, and video/image processing are enabled through CUDA and heterogeneous computing.”
